My Fly-Anywhere list: my top 5 artists I would love to see live. Inspired by Amaya Lim’s latest newsletter.
Last month I said: “I’ll make sure the next RR will be all about music, I promise.” I didn’t think it would take me a whole month to put out an only-music Random Ratings, but here it is and it’s more of a favorites list inspired by one of my go-to (if not, the only) music writers in this platform, Amaya Lim from Record Store.
In her From the Archive: 105 work of art newsletter she began by writing:
I was recently asked to make a Fly-Anywhere list: artists that, if they announced they were doing one night in Tokyo or something, I would book a flight for immediately and with no regard for financial repercussions. Of course, my list turned out to be longer than I wished it were, but every addition felt true: Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens, Frank Ocean, Fiona Apple, Cocteau Twins, Paul Simon, Talking Heads… it’s longer than that, but I’m feeling self conscious about how little I really value my life savings.
and asked at the end to comment my own Fly-Anywhere list. So here I go!
THE STROKES
I’ve been wanting to see them live since I was like 15 years-old. I thought Primavera Sound was going to be THE day but I didn’t go at the end. This has been my only wish since I started going to concerts.

THE AVALANCHES
I cannot explain the high that I get whenever I listen to any Avalanches album. I want to experience that high, I want to dance to every single one of their songs.

Another great DJ I’ve been talking about in my newsletters, I won’t stop talking about him until I get to see him and even then I’ll talk about the experience every time I can. Anything he does just makes me feel in a slow-mo running away scene from a cute indie movie. I cry everytime.

RADIOHEAD
I just want to see Thom Yorke’s dancing live. If they had like an In Rainbows tour I would sell my soul to watch it.

TAYLOR SWIFT
I had to had my girlie girl moment, of course I would DROP EVERYTHING NOW to watch Taylor Swift live. It’s my teenage dream ever since Speak Now and I just wish I could sing all the songs I know of her in one night.
