Once again, getting into another RR before speaking about myself. Well, ok, I can give a little update if anyone cares. Good news: I’m finally back in London and able to work here! Bad news: I can’t keep myself awake at a decent hour and I hope this changes soon.
More good news: I have a lot of things that I watched and listened to that I wanted to list. So here they are…
My Salinger Year (2020) dir. Philippe Falardeau
Stumbled upon this joyita indie on a friend’s insta story. I feel like this movie is an indie The Devil Wears Prada set in the 90’s with a very Generation X feeling: desktop computers were starting to be normal, typing was something that only specialized people knew how to do, you could move anywhere and people would know about it months later (I really don’t know how someone would know your address or which bar to call and ask for you), people wrote letters and sent them to their favorite artist/author. It’s not that shocking but that’s all I can think of the setting that caught my attention, the 90s were a weird time though, pre-internet life as a 20-something must have been quite an experience. I loved this movie, would watch it again and again, it has become one of my many comfort movies.

Rummikub app
This has been the only game that has been keeping me up all night as of late. I’m not much of a gaming person, I used to have an addiction with Bejeweled Blitz for a while back in 2015 but that has been just it. I started playing Rummikub in Mexico City and it was one of the games that I discovered at the same time as my partner so we had a fair start and could know who’s better at playing (obviously, me) unlike Backgammon or Chinese checkers.
The Rummikub app has everything to make you addicted: you play with other people online, you win coins and can make different bets, you can adjust the timing of the turns and have a pretty much adrenaline-fueled game.

wannabewithu (2016) Cuco
I listened to this album on the background while playing Rummikub for a very long time. I don’t really know how was I feeling or why did I choose this but it actually does a very good job as ambient music for concentrating. I love the melodies in here, Cuco has a very monotonous voice yet his music really sounds like my teenage years imagining my life as a California suburbs kid which I was not really that far from. He’s got the so-called vibes.

Love Life (2020-2021) created by Sam Boyd
Love Life is pretty much about the main character’s love life. In Season 1 we follow Anna Kendrick as Darby (with a personality not so different from what you would expect of Anna Kendrick, control freak, awkward and try-hard woman) having her ups and downs as her relationship decision-making timeline is shown. In Season 2, William Jackson Harper as Marcus shows a very different story with the same concept, he’s a married book editor who’s life takes a whole turn when he meets a very special woman and goes through c*vid quarantine and dating.
I really enjoyed this show, it’s easy to watch, very entertaining and it feels as if someone is just telling you their actual dating stories and well, that’s fun to me.

Killing Eve Season 1 (2018) created by Phoebe Waller-Bridge
Yesterday I saw the whole first season of Killing Eve with my partner. She loved it and wants to keep watching it. I liked it a lot at the beginning, Phoebe’s writing is very much there: very real female characters. A detective trying to find a serial killer who already knows she’s searching for her, a witty, thrilling, catch me if you can obsessive kind of relationship between both and yet a lot of boring (for me) join the dots kind of duty that I just can’t keep up with. I really think anyone should watch it, at least the first episode.
